About Us

Meath's Attic Insulation Experts —
Installed Properly, Every Time

Attic insulation is consistently the single most cost-effective energy upgrade you can make to a home in Ireland. The science is simple — heat rises, and in an inadequately insulated house, a significant proportion of that heat passes straight through the ceiling and out through the roof. You are essentially heating the sky.

A properly insulated attic changes that, keeping warmth where it belongs — in your living spaces — and reducing the amount of fuel you burn to replace the heat that leaks away.

For Meath homeowners, attic insulation is particularly worthwhile. County Meath gets its share of cold winters, and older housing stock across the county — built in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s — typically has inadequate insulation by current standards, or insulation that has deteriorated and settled over years of use.

Mr Clean Roofing installs attic insulation across County Meath to current Irish building regulation standards. Because we are roofers by trade, we also carry out any necessary roof-related preparation work as part of the same visit — checking ventilation, identifying any issues with the roof structure that should be addressed before insulation goes in, and ensuring the finished installation performs as it should.

SEAI grants towards the cost of attic insulation were increased in February 2026 and are available to most Meath homeowners. We can advise you on eligibility and help you understand the process.

What We Do

What Is Included in Our Attic Insulation Installation in Meath

Pre-Installation Survey

We inspect the attic space before installation — checking the existing insulation level, identifying any moisture, ventilation or structural issues that need to be addressed before new insulation goes in, and confirming the attic hatch size and access requirements.

Ventilation Check

Adequate roof ventilation is critical when insulating at joist level. Blocking ventilation pathways causes condensation in the roof space, leading to timber decay and mould. We check that ventilation is adequate before installation and address any deficiencies as part of the job.

Mineral Wool Installed to 300mm

Insulation is installed in two crossing layers to achieve the 300mm depth required by current Irish building regulations — eliminating cold bridges at the joist positions that a single layer leaves behind.

Attic Hatch Insulated & Draught-Proofed

The hatch cover is insulated and fitted with a draught seal, eliminating one of the most common thermal weak points in an otherwise well-insulated ceiling.

Pipes & Tanks Lagged

All visible water pipes and cold water storage tanks in the attic space are lagged to prevent freezing following insulation of the attic floor.

Clean Finish & SEAI-Compliant Installation

The installation is completed to a clean, professional standard that meets current Irish building regulation and SEAI grant requirements. You receive documentation confirming the work carried out and the materials installed.

Grants

SEAI Attic Insulation Grants
What Meath Homeowners Can Claim

The SEAI increased grant amounts for attic insulation in February 2026 as part of Ireland's National Residential Retrofit Plan. These are the current grant amounts available to eligible Meath homeowners:

  • Detached house: €2,000
  • Semi-detached or end-of-terrace: €1,300
  • Mid-terrace: €1,200
  • Apartment (top floor only): €800

First-time buyers can access an enhanced attic insulation grant of up to €2,500 — significantly higher than the standard amount.

Homeowners on qualifying welfare payments may be eligible for an enhanced grant that covers close to or all of the typical cost of the installation.

To be eligible your home must:

  • Have been built and occupied before 2011
  • Not have previously received an SEAI grant for attic insulation at the same address
  • Use an SEAI-registered contractor for the work

How the grant works: You apply to SEAI for grant approval before work starts. Once the work is completed and documented, the grant is paid directly to you. Alternatively, a One Stop Shop contractor can manage the application and deduct the grant upfront from your payment — meaning you pay only the balance from day one.

The SEAI estimates that for most home types, the 2026 grant now covers approximately 80% of the average cost of an attic insulation installation. For many Meath homeowners the out-of-pocket cost after the grant is modest.

Insulation FAQs - Meath Homeowners' Most Common Questions

Current Irish building regulations and SEAI grant requirements specify a minimum of 300mm of mineral wool insulation. This is typically installed as 100mm between the joists and 200mm across the joists in the perpendicular direction, eliminating cold bridges at the joist positions. Many older homes have only 100mm or less of settled, compacted insulation — well below the current standard.

Most Meath homeowners whose homes were built and occupied before 2011 are eligible for the SEAI attic insulation grant. The 2026 grant amounts are the highest ever available — up to €2,000 for a detached home and €1,300 for a semi-detached. First-time buyers can access up to €2,500. You must use an SEAI-registered contractor and have grant approval in place before work starts. We can advise you on eligibility during your free survey.

A standard attic insulation installation on a 3 or 4-bedroom home typically takes one day. Larger or more complex attic spaces may take a day and a half. We will give you a realistic timeframe during your survey.

Correctly installed attic insulation does not cause dampness — in fact it typically reduces condensation issues by maintaining a more consistent internal temperature. The key is correct installation with adequate roof ventilation maintained above the insulation level. We check ventilation as part of every survey and installation.

Not necessarily replaced, but almost certainly topped up. Insulation installed before the mid-2000s is typically 100mm or less, well below the current 300mm standard. Settled or compressed insulation also performs below its original specification. In most cases the existing insulation can be left in place and new insulation installed on top to bring the total to the required depth.

The main requirements are clear access to the attic space and any electrical or plumbing work in the attic completed before insulation goes in. We will carry out a pre-installation survey and flag anything that needs to be done beforehand.
